I’m celebrating (bit early – havent had the contract yet but I was offered the job today!) a new job at school, starting in August, which will take me into the Inclusion team and this time in the secondary school specifically in English! My creative writing club in secondary has been going really well, so I’m now really excited to see how I…

Any strong thoughts on the whole Luke Bateman situation?
For context, if you’re not on TikTok – former rugby player, model, b-list celebrity, good-looking white, male (basically like an MMC in romantasy) joins booktok, talks about his fave fantasy books, gets over 100k followers basically overnight. (He comes across as really enthusiastic…

Honestly, this kind of thing is an absolute gut punch. It doesn’t send a message that encourages people to work at their craft and acquire the necessary skills to actually be good at something. It’s just another example of how to dumb down the population

There is an opportunistic wing of publishing that doesn’t seek out and nurture new talent, but simply tries to milk the zeitgeist before public interest moves on. The thing is, it still takes a long time to produce a book, and what was trending on Monday is rarely trending by Friday.
A lot of publishers tried to jump on the TikTok thing a few…

Quick question – can anyone give me a ball park figure for what they’d expect to pay for typesetting their novel? (Literally) asking for a friend
View more comments-
Is typesetting the same as formatting? If so, I’d suggest to your friend that they don’t pay for that as there’s (relatively) cheap software that will do that for them (and if they buy the software they can format all their books forever more without paying a further penny – and they can make small changes/amendments on their without having to…

Only just saw this but I paid £130 for paperback and ebook formatting. Marisa @reece offers it as a service I think

Happy bank holiday everyone – just hopping for a quick sprint or two while I can!
Let me know if you’re kicking about and writing, too!

I’ve just finished a little edit for someone and getting back to my own book now for sprints for the afternoon

I’m here! I’ve just finished the mammoth task of removing my second POV after some feedback so it’s no longer a dual narrative and re-written the ending in line with the save the cat five point finale. I’m now going back through for one last edit trying to make little cuts to get the wordcount down and tidying up and polishing on a…

I adore bank holiday weekends for one primary reason: MORE WRITING TIME!
Without the distraction of work and the normal, daily grind, the creative freedom that springs always makes me feel so much better and in the mood to write!
Albeit, I am doing more things with the kids outwith their (and my) normal structure, it’s a real joy to escape…

Hello Sunday Scribblers!
I hope everyone is doing well with their writing – I’ll be on and off today, so do check in if you’re writing, or with word counts when you finish to keep us all accountable!
If you’re not writing, enjoy your Sunday, and take advantage of that sunshine (if you have it!)

I cleared some work out of the way yesterday so today I can get back to planning for my adult book. So I’ll be dipping in to that throughout the day

I’m hoping to get a few words down before my mum arrives mid afternoon
