I’m a newbie on here and drowning in information. Is there a help section anywhere that tells me how to use the site or what the groups do? I can’t work it out from the titles. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian, I don’t know about a Help area – I think it’s more a case of posting any queries like you have done and just having a good old browse around. For the groups, if you go to the Groups under the Community tab above, most have a short explanation about what they are under them. A few others don’t – Daily Activities is signing up to receive…

Hey, hive mind question! Can anyone think of a picture book where the main character has lost their home and is trying to find a new one?

Can’t think of one off the top of my head, but maybe one of the ones later on this list might prove useful? https://www.booksfortopics.com/booklists/topics/geography/houses-homes-buildings/

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all doing okay?
After a busy end of term, I’ve finally finished for the holidays and so will hopefully be able to post more and interact more, at least until mid-August.
I also wanted to thank all of you for being part of this lovely wee community over the past 7 years that I’ve been running it. It’s been challenging…

I’ve been guilty of drifting away in my own small, broken lift raft over the past few weeks. It’s logging back on here to see what everyone’s up to that’s got me back on track. Thank you so much for providing the space…and enjoy your hols!

Here, here – this community is everything. Without it I would just be a weirdo with worlds in my head who keeps on arguing with imaginary creatures of all denominations. Here – I’m a writer, amongst fellow writers, sharing dreams, nightmares and visions. Thank you for anchoring me to my sanity.

I have the same problem as Sarah below. I have been removed from the hub and so can’t access any of my groups.

Finding Comp. titles is Soooo Hard!

Yes, yes and yes. My least favourite thing! What I found helped was thinking of one similar title and looking on Amazon at the ‘Frequently bought together’ and ‘You might also like’ recommendations. Still not perfect, but I did find it helpful.

Can I help at all? School Librarian and reading obsessive here. If you describe your book/the audience I can give it a stab? I’m best with MG & Upper MG/Teen as that’s the age group I work with and review most books for

A dreich day after all the sunshine here in Scotland, so it’s back to the writing desk to put down more words and end the weekend on a high!
Anyone else around today? I’ll be on and off between a few things (including soft play hell – why, oh why do I book these things! But I can take my laptop!

I’m writing all day, on a mission to finish my first full draft today!

Hey folks, thanks for all the ideas of inspiration for the Final Word last week – I wrote one today (for Monday) based on one of those suggestions and will work through the other ones in the coming weeks!
It’s one What I Wish I Knew… so a series of anecdotes, experiences and advice based on all the mistakes I made when I started out. I kept…

I look forward to reading them – I’m sure there’ll be really helpful!

If you’re not yet on Substack, you might want to reconsider. Phoebe Morgan (Publishing Director at Hodder & Stoughton) shares her thoughts and experience in a weekly stack called The Honest Editor. And this week, she interviews Tom, who runs my incredible local bookshop. Boil the kettle / pour a drink. Settle back and read this, then subscribe…

Thanks for this, Steve. Very interesting, if a little bit sobering…

This was a nice way to wake up today!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Always bitter sweet as I don’t speak to or know my own dad anymore, but lucky and grateful to have amazing kids.
