I feel unbelievably lucky to have been selected for #writementor. It is incredible how much a supportive network and a dedicated mentor can do for your writing. #writementor not only gave me the tools and the determination to improve my manuscript, but also an insight into the industry. I cannot recommend this wonderful community enough and feel indebted to Stuart for setting it up.
Writementor is a fantastic opportunity with a wonderful, supportive community. I fully expect a lot of debuts will have #writementor and Stuart to thank in the coming years.
#WriteMentor has been a game changer for me. Very quickly I found I had complete faith in my mentor's opinions, as pretty much everything she said hit home. With her advice and insight I rewrote my opening, and submitted it to a literary festival and a competition. Talk about immediate results!! I was short-listed in the competition, while a publisher at the literary festival expressed interest in my writing. From there I have gone on to secure an agent, all in three months. I know that sounds like a fairy tale, but if you are prepared to work, and to listen to advice, then working with a mentor can change your luck completely. If someone already published, agented, or just ahead of you in terms of writing experience, chooses your story because they feel an affinity to it, you have the perfect critic of your work. A mentor is uniquely supportive, and their experience affords you the opportunity to improve in great leaps. I've had other eyes on my work before, and masses of constructive feedback, but this felt the most supportive, and best informed. I am immensely grateful to my mentor, and the scheme. I can't believe how much it has changed everything for me. But it totally has transformed my progress.
My time as a WriteMentor mentee was challenging, uplifting, productive & immensely rewarding. The incredible support of the WM community allowed me to push myself to make my manuscript the best it could be. I worked so hard! And my mentor & fellow mentees cheered me on the entire time. Not only do I have a manuscript I'm incredibly proud of, I have a new community of writing friends who I know will be with me through thick & thin.
I joined #WriteMentor after losing my first publishing contract. Author Marisa Noelle went above and beyond helping me get back on my feet with a whole new book, an amazing pitch, and a query that slays! The community in this program is incredible.
Write Mentor was the best thing to happen to my writing. I gained an amazing mentor, new writer friends, and an encouraging community. Best of all, I’m a much stronger and more confident writer because of the program.
Looking back over #WriteMentor, I'm still in shock at how much my mentor, KC, and I accomplished. She was honest with me about the problems with my manuscript, and after tearing it apart, was there for me while I put it back together. She taught me how to be a stronger writer, and I'm so grateful for everything.
#WriteMentor has helped me to make my manuscript and submission package so much better and has massively improved my confidence. My mentor, Marisa Noelle, has taught me so much and given constructive, thoughtful feedback. I'm ready to start querying because of #WriteMentor and I've become part of a friendly, supportive community that will last beyond the process.
WriteMentor was an extraordinary learning opportunity! My mentor's notes and advice (looking at you, Amy Wilson) were solid gold. My ms took big steps forward as I put her suggestions into practice, and gave me a boost of confidence as I prepared to start querying. Stuart did an exceptional job keeping in touch with all the mentees during the process, helping us manage our expectations and encouraging us to put in the work. Results are still out on the Agent Showcase, and that was the icing on top of the cake. As a US writer, it was actually very refreshing to benefit from writing know-how and savvy based in the UK, helpfully distant from some of the tired trends in the industry stateside. First class experience, and highly recommended!
Getting into #WriteMentor is a wonderful opportunity to hone your craft and improve as a writer. Be brave and put your work out there. You never know how it could change your writing and your life.
Write Mentor is composed of a warm helpful community and knowledgeable mentors who go out their way to help improve the writing skills, novels and confidence of their mentees. I couldn't be happier to have been paired with Carla whose kindness and help has been immensely appreciated. The far reaching benefits and joy of being part of the Write Mentor community is invaluable. Write Mentor has helped me in numerous ways, practically and mentally. It has positively changed my writing life and continues to do so. I'm so grateful to Stuart for starting and running Write Mentor with so much care and inspiration. Thank you.
I will forever be a better writer because of WriteMentor. My manuscript is so much closer to being the book I set out to create. The confidence boost of being selected and the incredible writing friends I've made are the icing on the cake!
Finding and applying to WriteMentor has changed my life. I can't begin to describe how much my writing has improved. There is also a sense of community that you can't get anywhere else. I 1000% implore anybody looking to improve their craft to sign up and take a chance on the WriteMentor program.
"Filling out the #WriteMentor application form is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The scheme has been a safety net, allowing me to take huge leaps with my story. Marisa, my mentor, was generous/brave enough to take on three of us. Thanks to her insight, I’ve achieved more in three months than I would have thought possible in twice that time. While I’m thrilled to have had agent requests as a result of the showcase, my takeaway from the experience is so much more than that. My confidence has increased a hundredfold, every aspect of my writing is stronger and I feel fully ready to go out there and query. And whatever the future may hold, I have an incredible bunch of new writer buddies to share the next steps with."
During a time when I was feeling lost with my writing, the writementor program helped reconnect me not just with my writing but with a writing family that supports me for a long time to come afterwards. I have made so many life long friendships and feel so blessed to have been a part of it. Thank you!
I entered #WriteMentor on a whim following a very difficult rejection from my "dream agent." At the time I entered the program I knew there were problems with my manuscript, but I didn't know what they were or how to identify them. Enter - Stuart White and his wonderful crew of inspiring mentors! I was fortunate enough to be selected by Stuart as a mentee and he had me completing homework right away. The homework was difficult, and the type of thing I always avoided as a writer. Shockingly (or not) it revealed to me many of the manuscript's problems. I then took a very long and hard look at my baby. I decided to rip it apart, eliminating three main characters and rearranging the plot significantly. It was painful and very time-consuming, but in the end my manuscript is so much stronger than I thought it would be. And more importantly, as a writer I feel validated and invigorated in a way that I haven't before. Writing is oftentimes a lonely business and my experience up until this point has been solo. Now, after #WriteMentor I have some great writing friends and definitely feel like I am part of a community. Stuart has been - and continues to be - hugely supportive and honest every step of the way. A huge thank you to Stuart and all the mentors who have given so freely of their time!!
WriteMentor was a great experience which helped me uncover issues with my manuscript I couldn't have found on my own and helped take my writing to the next level. I've already gotten several new full requests with my revised manuscript and I'm happy to have been a part of the program.
Participating in #WriteMentor was a fantastic experience for me & all of the other mentees I have communicated with. Being 'guinea pigs' in the inaugural year has been so much fun & the sense of community between the mentors & writers has been phenomenal. Mentors were more than willing to still help people who were not their direct responsibility, as evidenced by the FB groups set up. The competition was run in a very professional manner, and Stuart was so determined to treat everyone respectfully & with compassion. His love for writing & for his fellow writers was evident in all he did. My personal mentor, Danielle Jawando, was such a proactive, positive influence, I am so grateful for her support, cheerleading, wisdom and friendship. I look forward to many more years where she & I can get excited for each others successes. I definitely recommend the programme, and hope to be able to pay it forward in future by being a mentor myself.
This experience has been mind-blowing. The level of professionalism, the encouragement and the attention to craft have been extraordinary. I know next year's group will be much larger, and I hope all of the groups to follow have as powerful an experience as I've had. This was the charter, inaugural group, and I know for many of the mentors it was their first time in that role. I don't know if I'd be a good mentor. If my book gets published, I might feel as if I could be of value in that capacity. Carla was PERFECT for me. She understood what I was trying to tell, she found the weak spots and offered ideas that helped me choose the right path. Even the ideas I didn't use were valuable, because they made me examine the story from a different perspective. Even though we are all united by the bond of this experience, I don't want this to be over.
The best part of WriteMentor can't be found on the website or in the details: it's in the community. Whether you found a mentor or not, whether you found critique partners or not, whether you made friends with other mentees or not, you still had people rooting for you at every stage and cheering you on at the finish line.
WriteMentor was a great experience. My mentor cared about my manuscript and challenged me to push my writing to the next level. She was always available to answer my questions and inspired to do my best. I am so glad I applied.
#WriteMentor has been a pivotal part of my writing career. I was challenged to make my writing better, then given the guidance to do so. With any success I have in the future, I know I’ll be able to trace the roots of it back to this program and everyone who made it so incredible.
Being a part of WriteMentor has been amazing, I feel so lucky to have been part of it. Captained by Stuart's enthusiasm and kindness, it has felt like an exciting boat trip up a scenic river, with people waving encouragement at you from the banks. My mentor was super friendly and brilliantly insightful. The whole experience has been a joy, the agent requests the icing on the cake. I want to do it all over again!
Before #writementor, my biggest road block was a severe lack of confidence both in myself and in my words. After working with my mentor, I learned how to listen to that inner voice that suspected what still needed work and also what my strengths are. My mentor (and the #writementor experience as a whole) has led me to something even more valuable than a polished manuscript. That confidence is something I can bring with me no matter what manuscript I work on, and for that I am eternally grateful.
#WriteMentor has been amazing. I was assigned a mentor that has a wealth of knowledge and experience of the craft of writing, a real skill for understanding story, and, best of all, a great way of sharing this. I never felt like I was being instructed by my mentor, but very much felt that I was being offered options and insight, and guided to find my own way to improve . At the end of the programme, it was still my book, all written by me - just better! My mentor also put me in touch with two other mentees of his (with all our agreement) and we formed a wonderful, supportive group - one that I feel sure will last way beyond the end of the programme. I've ended the programme with renewed enthusiasm for my writing, armed with lots of new tools to improve my work, and with a network of fantastic writers that I now call friends. What better way for a writer to end the summer?
On top of making lots of new writer friends and building a community of support, #WriteMentor gave me the push I needed to believe in my own story and get it out there for agents to look at. I will forever be grateful to Stuart and my dear mentor Jodi, as well as all my fellow mentees.

Not only did I end up with several agent requests but my writing and my own confidence in my writing is much stronger for the support the #Writementor community has given me.
I entered #WriteMentor on a whim, not really understanding what it was. I hoped I might receive some helpful feedback- I was really struggling with my project. My mentor fast-tracked me through a process I didn’t have experience in. Now I have a completed, query-ready MS. Funny how you can read voraciously, receive excellent marks in school and still have no idea how to write a book! #WriteMentor showed me how important it is to have a community around you that understands the writing process and supports you during it. I also appreciated the extra steps #WriteMentor took to give all the participants- not just those selected for mentorship- helpful tips and information. I will be forever grateful for the experience.
