Bio

Way back in the mists of the late twentieth century I used to write about football, in the form of an unpublished non-fiction book – think Nick Hornby’s ‘Fever Pitch’ except only a tenth as good – and a series of scurrilous scribbles for the fanzines ‘The Almighty Brian’ and ‘Saturday Afternoon and Sunday Morning’.

This century, I’ve concentrated on novels:
For adults, ‘Once In A Lifetime’, a comedy of male mid-life haplessness of the riches to rags to riches variety, in the style of John O’Farrell’s ‘The Best A Man Can Get’;
For MG, ‘Army of Me’ and its sequel, ‘Another Girl, Another Planet’, the first two (so far) in a multiverse mystery adventure series;
For Teen, ‘Eat My Goal!’ a football romcom with eco-activist undertones (and a soundtrack including The Undertones’ ‘Teenage Kicks’) with sequel potential;
For YA/crossover, ‘Acceptable In The Eighties’ and ‘1999’, a two-part (so far) dark romcom involving two star-crossed lovers dealing with class war, toxic masculinity and social media pile-ons, with banging 80s and 90s soundtracks.

Apart from a total lack of agent interest, the main thing they all have in common is that they all share their title with a song, and in the case of the most recent three, every single chapter title is also a song title. When not writing, I’m often on Spotify putting together a playlist for the next MS…
