Picture book chat with author Rachael Davis-Featherstone

An informal monthly chat for writers at all stages of their picture book writing journey hosted by Rachael Davis-Featherstone. Sessions typically start will a round-up of how the previous month has been, celebrating highs and offering support for the lows followed by a discussion on a picture book topic. Members can suggest topics and we’ve covered everything from structure, to rhyming schemes, query letters and book fairs. The second half of the session is not recorded and may include workshopping members stories.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rachael Davis-Featherstone is an agent, enterprising board member and multi-award-nominated author with over 10 years of publishing experience. She is a passionate self-starter with a proven track record for building a successful creative portfolio career. She is recognised by the publishing industry as a champion of diversity in literature.

Some of Rachael’s career highlights include:

  • Publishing over 20 books, spanning picture books to adult novels and non-fiction, including her debut YA Oxford Blood (2025), which sold at auction to Walker Books and Macmillan US.

  • Shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize; longlisted for the Diverse Book Awards and the Inclusive Books for Children Awards. Twice featured in The Guardian’s ‘best new picture books and novels’ and three times Editor’s Choice in The Bookseller.

  • Judge for the inaugural Jericho Prize, 2021, a prize created to amplify new Black-British writers.

  • Appointed as a Trustee for English PEN, where Rachael combines her background in analytics and strategy with creativity and best practice governance to help hold leaders to account.

  • While working on the trading floor as a Strategist analysing financial trends, Rachael designed and launched an innovative weekly inflation publication and hosted inflation teach-ins internationally, building strong client relationships and generating new business.

  • Consulting for a leading financial learning and development firm, designing and delivering technical and professional skills training and creating innovative learning solutions.
