Things to ask yourself and be mindful of

THINGS TO ASK YOURSELF:

Is your personality coming through in your writing in wordplay, voice or rhyme?

Is the tense and voice consistent?

How does your story sound when it is read aloud?

Do the words leave room for an interaction with the pictures?

Is the complexity of your writing and your vocabulary suited to children 3-7yrs?

Is the complexity of your writing and your vocabulary suited to busy, tired adults?

THINGS TO BE MINDFUL OF:

Ensure your story has pace to keep your reader turning pages

Consider page turns to keep the reader engage

Rhyming texts need consistent scansion

Rhyming stories should have a strong arc and work even if they were to be translated into rhyme

Taking out too many words can make a story hard to follow

If writing in rhyme, is your pattern water-tight and consistent no matter a person’s dialect or accent?
