Books that Help 2024

???? Exciting News! Applications for the 2024 Books That Help mentorship scheme are opening on Wednesday 27th November! ????

Looking to kickstart your journey as a writer or writer-illustrator of empowering, theme-driven picture books that help?

Books That Help is here to support, inspire, and guide you. This year, we’re excited to offer an aspiring creative the opportunity to work with experienced mentor and founder of Books That Help, Clare Helen Welsh, to gain insights into the publishing world, and receive one-on-one guidance.

I’m thrilled to announce that applications are soon opening for the 2024 Books That HelpMentorship Scheme. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to bring a current project to life, this scheme is all about supporting you—the writers or writer-illustrators who want to make a difference through their words.

The Books That Help mentorship is special because it’s not just about improving your craft; it’s about connecting with what you want to say to the world and shaping a meaningful story that will resonate with readers. This mentorship is designed to uplift voices – just like yours – who have stories that can impact, heal, or inspire others.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time to focus on your writing, this is it. You’ll receive one-on-one support from myself, feedback from senior editor, Perry Emerson, insights into the publishing world, as well as the chance to get your polished manuscript in front of publisher, Little Tiger Press.

So, take a leap – your words are powerful.

Thank you in advance for trusting me with your stories and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

‘BOOKS THAT HELP’ MENTORSHIP 2024

Books That Help are excited to announce that the Books That Help mentorship is BACK for one writer or writer-illustrator.

We’re sure you’ll agree this is another fantastic opportunity.

The Books That Help mentorship is for aspiring writers in partnership with children’s publisher, Little Tiger Press.

One mentorship will be offered to an unagented writer or writer-illustrator with a draft of a picture book that fits with the Books That Help agenda: stories that can help when the words are hard find. The mentorship will begin in Spring 2025 and will involve a series of virtual sessions with Clare to support the development of a picture book for 3-7yr olds.

On behalf of publisher Little Tiger Press, Senior Editor Perry Emerson will help to shortlist the mentees from applications received and will offer feedback on the chosen text. The Little Tiger team will then take a first look at the completed manuscript at the end of the process.

Perry said, “The path to getting published can often seem a daunting one, and so to have an author as talented, wise, and generous as Clare offering her support and guidance will be an invaluable experience for a new writer. I’m delighted to be involved with this mentorship, and I am very much looking forward to reading the inspiring stories that will be submitted.”

To help you prepare your story for submission and to talk you through the application process, there will be a live webinar with mentor, Clare Helen Welsh, and last year’s mentee, Flora Cruft on Wednesday 27th November at 7pm, after which mentorships applications will open and stay open until midnight on 31st December.
