Meet the WriteMentor team: Stuart White, Founder
What’s your role at WriteMentor?
Founder and general dog’s body, from fixing the hyperdrive to coming up with too many ideas that we’ll never actually be able to do!
What do you love most about working at WriteMentor?
I don’t technically work as I’m a volunteer and don’t get paid, but I do it because I care deeply about building community – when I was struggling as a lonely writer more than 10 years ago, it was a small twitter community that kept me going. I wanted to amplify that and help as many people connect and feel less lonely as possible.
What’s your favourite thing that WriteMentor offers writers?
Definitely our Hub – a space for people to moan and cry and discuss all things ‘writerly’ – in a way that’s not possible with non-writing people in our lives. That connection is worth a million writing courses, IMO!
What are you reading right now?
Adam-2 by Alistair Chisholm and the Wild Robot by Peter Brown.
What are you writing right now?
Books 2 and 3 of the Ghosts of Mars series – hoping to try and get a simultaneous release but we’ll see!
What do you love doing when you’re not writing?
I have to be honest and say I don’t do a lot of things that I ‘love’. I’m not very kind to myself in that way, but I do get a lot out of the many things I do outwith writing!
What’s your one piece of writing advice?
A low quality, low word count writing session regularly is worth much more than sporadic, high quality, high word count sessions.
