Manuscript Clinic Opportunity – from agent Rachel Hamilton
‘Why do agents keep rejecting me?’
Literary agent, Rachel Hamilton of Ben Illis Agency, has kindly offered to run a clinic for writers of middle-grade fiction who are feeling frustrated and disheartened after numerous rejections with no detailed feedback.
While chatting with me, she explained that she feels for those who don’t understand why their submissions are not leading to any requests and she’d like to help a small group to identify possible reasons.
The six writers will be chosen at random (after all, if we choose people, that’s just another rejection for those who miss out, and we’d hate to do that) via a draw made after all the applications have been received.
Who is the clinic for?
Six UK-based, unpublished MG authors
- who have received more than twenty-five agent rejections with no detailed feedback
- who are happy to discuss their experiences in a (private) group environment
- who are happy to have their synopsis and first chapter analysed (constructively and kindly) in front of five other participants
What will it involve?
An eighty minute group Zoom discussion about common reasons for rejection, with specific reference to the six synopses and first chapters submitted.
What will it cost?
There is no fee, but if you value the advice given and could have afforded to pay a course fee then it would be wonderful if you donated it to First Story.
