#WriteMentor Writing Weekends!

Why?

We know that sometimes a number of factors prevent writers from travelling very far to take part in creative writing courses/workshops. Health, mobility, finance and family responsibilities are all high on that list. I know getting to London where so many courses/workshops are located is difficult for me personally, due to health/family and also work responsibilities.

So, we are bringing our workshops to you. Whole weekends, packed with 4 workshops, time for free writing, sharing work, practising your pitching, and an expert workshop leader who will be on hand to guide you through the weekend.

No need to buy expensive train tickets (hopefully) or book accommodation. You can have breakfast and dinner at home, and we’ll provide you with a delicious lunch (I promise I won’t cook it!).

Check out the details below and I hope you’ll agree that these writing weekends will provide you with great value, with less travel and time away from home/the family.

What will the writing weekends include?

The workshops will be planned by the workshop leaders and so will differ from venue to venue – check each individual venue for more specific details.

We also plan to include visiting authors/agents/editors to each weekend (as availability permits) and these will be announced on a venue by venue basis.

What will the 1-2-1 involve?

You can either:

  • use the time to chat about your work/writing in general
  • discuss specific craft areas
  • practice your pitching
  • send in 2 pages (double-spaced, 12′) of your work to discuss (this may change on an individual basis depending on who the guest is)

Just let us know when you sign up.

PLEASE NOTE: we will limit the 1-2-1s to 10 places, so signing up early is imperative in order to ensure you get one of these highly sought after spots.

AND you must also buy a day ticket to do a 1-2-1. These are not available on their own.

How much will it cost?

Writers would have the option of doing both days at a cost of £200* or £100 for 1 day (includes lunch/resources). And there’s a 11% saving of £25 if you choose both days and a 1-2-1 (the 1-2-1 will be subject to availability).

*Except in London/Dublin which will be £220.

We do plan to offer scholarship places. Current closing date is 29th September (11.59pm).

We also offer concession discounts. Use code WWW40 if you consider yourself eligible.

The 1-2-1 sessions may be on the Saturday OR Sunday, so be sure to check your local workshop before booking.

Who will run them?

We have a strong group of workshop leaders who have already agreed to run some of our workshops around the country. This will be an evolving roster and we will add leaders to the other venues, and perhaps add venues as demand dictates.

We also have industry expert guests who will run 1-2-1s at each venue.
