Workshop Leader:

Julie has always told tales. Not the ‘she ate all the cake not me’ kind, but wildly exaggerated tales of everyday events. Julie still loves telling stories. She’s written 90 books for children of all ages the have been published around the world.

Julie lives in Hampshire in an old cottage with her family and a white wolf – cunningly disguised as a dog. When she’s not writing she likes eating cake, reading and walking, often at the same time.

Melissa Hyder is a friendly, meticulous and conscientious editor with over fifteen years of editing experience in children’s publishing.
She’s spent time working both in-house and on a freelance basis for wonderful publishers such as Usborne, Egmont, Piccadilly Press, Hot Key Books, Stripes, Simon and Schuster and Troika. From critiques to developmental edits, copyedits to proofreads, she works right along the editorial spectrum to support and help create fantastic children’s novels with bestselling, experienced and debut authors alike. She also works with authors directly who are looking to prepare their manuscripts for submission or self-publish.
She particularly loves working with fiction for 8-12 and YA, and thinks there is nothing more exciting and resonant than a great story, especially one that inspires and excites young minds. She can’t wait to meet you and help make your book the very best it can be.
