4 workshops, 1-2-1s, hours of free writing time and all-inclusive lunch, snacks and drinks from 9-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Workshop details:

SAT AM: Creating 3D characters – Building one from scratch by answering ten questions.

SAT PM: Crafting a great opening line – Looking at great first lines and discussing why they work, then coming up with one for each person’s own WIP

SAT PM: 1-2-1s: Patrice Lawrence

SUN AM: From Setting to Plot – How to use an image to build a story

SUN PM: Upping the Stakes – Using high stakes to invest the reader in your world

Inclusive of the following:

Workshop Leader/Guest:

Nizrana Farook is a MG writer whose debut novel, The Girl Who Stole an Elephant, is out with Nosy Crow in January 2020. She has a master’s degree in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University, with distinction.

Patrice Lawrence is an award-winning writer for children and young people. Her debut YA novel, Orangeboy, won the Bookseller YA Prize and the Waterstones Prize for Older Children’s Fiction, and was shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award and many regional awards. Indigo Donut, won the Bristol Crimefest YA prize. Her recent books include Snap, a special World Book Day day, Toad Attack for younger readers and Diver’s Daughter, part of Scholastic’s Voices series inspired by UK Black and Asian history. Patrice has contributed to several short story anthologies including Malory Towers: New Class of Malory Towers. Patrice’s third YA novel, Rose, Interrupted is published in July.
