Workshop Leader(s)/Guest:

Jenni writes children’s books with a magical twist. She loves to take real and familiar places and events and add a layer of mystery and hocus-pocus. She had the good fortune to be selected for the first year of the ‘WriteMentor’ scheme and mentored by Lindsay Galvin, author of ‘The Secret Deep’.
As well as her magical middle grade novels, Jenni writes short contemporary YA stories for reluctant and struggling readers, including Torn and Wanted from Badger Learning.

Emma has a BA (Hons) in Film and an MA in Screenwriting and her short stories for adults have been placed in various competitions (Rhys Davis Award, West Sussex Writers), anthologies (NFFD, Reflex Press), as well as shortlisted for the Fish Short Story Award and longlisted for the S1 Leeds Literary Prize. She has also written books for reluctant readers, Biology, Sam and United (Badger). She has been commissioned by Scholastic for their Voices series to write a middle grade novel based on the son of Pablo Fanque, the first black circus proprietor in Victorian Britain.

Sophie’s first novel, Cuckoo, is a gothic psychological thriller set in Derbyshire. It won the Bath Novel Award 2017 and York Festival of Writing Friday Night Live 2017. After it was published in Nov 2018, Cuckoo hit no 1 in the Bookseller’s Heatseekers Fiction Chart and Sophie’s second book Magpie is due out Nov 2019. Sophie has an MA in Mediaeval History and alongside her writing, works as a traditional oral storyteller, performing and leading workshops, under the name Sophie Snell. For more information see
