SAT AM: Workshop One: How To Make Your Picture Book Sing (Emma): How can you captivate the toughest critics… KIDS?! Capturing giggles, exploring themes that resonate, and lining up with the school curriculum -as a teacher, reviewer and picture book author I’ll help you understand all the things that children respond so well to in great picture books.
SAT PM: Workshop Two: Golden Rules of writing YA fiction (Gabriel)
SUN AM: Workshop Three: Getting Out There… virtually! (Emma) – Terrified of twitter? Fed up with Facebook… and my alliteration? Oops! Do you really need a website (what would you put on it?!), an Instagram account? Join me for this hour-long workshop in which I’ll equip you with the tools and knowledge you need.
SUN PM: Workshop Four: Pacing and characters in YA fiction (Gabriel)

Emma Perry is a teacher, picture book author and reviewer. She began the award-winning children’s book review website My Book Corner back in 2011 as a solo adventure to satisfy her love of great kids’ books – it’s now grown to a team of 16 writers, regularly attracts 14,800 visits a month and has a social media following of over 15,200.
Emma’s debut picture book,I Don’t Like Books. Never. Ever. The End.illustrated by Sharon Davey will be published by David Fickling Books in January 2020, and has been sold to 8 territories. This Book Has Alpacas And Bears, illustrated by Rikin Parekh leaps onto the shelves in June 2020.
Emma is an experienced Secondary(English Language &Literature) and Primary School teacher. She currently teaches at a local Primary School, always arriving with a bag packed with books.
Gabriel Dylan is not only an exciting new writer, he is also a surfer, snowboarder and secondary-school teacher. Indeed, the inspiration for his first novel came from being snowed in whilst leading a school skiing trip to a remote village in the Austrian Alps.
Gabriel’s first novel, a gripping and unsettling psychological horror called WHITEOUT will be published in early 2019 on the ‘Red Eye’ horror imprint at Stripes.
Tracy Darnton is a writer for children and young adults. She has an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa, with Distinction. She has extensive experience in delivering talks and workshops.
Her first novel THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Her second novel will be published by Stripes next summer based on her short story in the YA anthology I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. She also has picture books coming out with another publisher. Her articles on writing appear in TEEN Breathe magazine.
She is represented by Jo Williamson at Antony Harwood Literary Agency.
