?
Bio: I have too many children (now YAs) and an MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa. Oh, and an agent and a publisher. And I teach creative writing in schools.
?
Experience: I sift stories for the Bristol Short Story Prize (and have for the last 10 years), MAWYP from Bath Spa, I used to work for a publisher.
?
Mentoring style: I’m happy to help a mentee get a submission ready for an agent. I help to read and sift most of the subs my agent receives so I have a good idea what agents look for.
?
Mentee style: I’d like someone who is prepared to discuss and take on board suggested edits, but is also able to defend anything they want to keep in because it’s really important to them (so long as they can justify it!)
?
Favourite novels: The Earthsea Trilogy, The Weird Stone of Brisingamen, Tom’s Midnight Garden, Phoenix by SF Said, and a million more contemporary MG & YA. Most recently, Wed Wabbit, The Huntress Sea, A Faraway Magic, The Call
?
Mentoring package offered: Query package (synopsis, query letter, 1st 3 chapters) (Though when I start mentoring someone I’m usually happy to see it through to conclusion if I like the book)
