Mentoring Style: I chair a small local writing group where we run different writing exercises and encourage critique and brainstorming. I love collaborating to overcome plot holes and develop characters, and would be fascinated to follow the submission journey through with someone, and help get them signed. Writing can be such a lonely job that building relationships within the trade is essential to staying sane. We all need to talk to other writers… because only they truly understand!
I use a lot of flash for writing practice and to inspire creativity, so it’d be cool to mentor a writer who also does this or wants to do more of it. I will look to stay in contact either by email or on Twitter DM or both – I’m usually online every weekday. I will share all of the writing comps that come my way, have writing ‘sprints’ and cheerlead my mentee. I am quick to grasp concepts and can be a tough critique partner. If you think you can handle it I could be the mentor for you!

What I want : I love chillers and thrillers and pacey nail-biting stuff. Horror is my main love, and mixing that with comedy my ultimate wish. Doing that well is rare… let’s see what you got!
I am looking for MG but hopefully the older end, say 9-12 ish and teen to the younger end of YA. I like stuff that doesn’t fit in anywhere else. If you’ve written something weird I am definitely interested.

What do I read: A quick glance over my bookcase says it all. Adult thrillers – Stephen King, Michael Crichton, John Grisham. Classic MG from Berlie Doherty and Enid Blyton. YA from Tanya Byrne and the Stripes Red Eye range. My favourite book is My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. Also awfully impressed by Noah Can’t Even, The Girl With All The Gifts and have just started the Lockwood & Co series by Jonathan Stroud. I need to be gripped and particularly love a strong start/ first chapter.

What I am offering:
Query Package (synopsis, query letter, 1st three chapters)
The whole thing does not have to be written. I am happy to talk through planning etc for the unwritten bits.
If we click and my mentee wants I can offer further support, tailored to suit us both.
