Published books: Signed with Parliament House for my debut novel, ‘LINEAGE’.
It will be released in 2019.

Genre: YA

Bio: My name is Carla Vonzale Lewis, and I’m a writer and homemaker. I live in Hesperia, California, with my very supportive husband.
The first part of my life, I worked in customer service. It wasn’t an easy job, but I did enjoy talking with people. And when it came time to develop my characters, I drew on those experiences.
But still, I felt something was missing in my life.
I’ve always loved the written word and the way a good book could take you to another place and time. Instead of hanging out in the lunchroom, I would go to the library and create stories or bury my head in a really good book.
I started writing my first novel in 2014 and 30 days later I had a collection of scenes that needed some serious revision. And that was where the fun came in. Over the course of several years my novel went through final draft after final draft until I finally came to…you guessed it, the final draft.
My stories tend to be dark. I like creating worlds where the characters have to fight their way through many horrific obstacles to reach their HEA. And there has to be magic!
When I’m not writing, I enjoy reading, binge watching shows on Netflix, and trying to convince my husband that getting a dog is a wonderful idea.

Experience: I’ve been providing critique, developmental edits, and proofreading for my fellow writers for the past three years. Taking the skills I’ve learned as a fraud investigator, I’ve become adept at identifying plot holes, character development issues that coincide with dialogue and character motivation. I’ve recently become an editorial intern for Filles Vertes Publishing where my skills help me to identify novels that can be recommended for publication.

Mentoring style: With my first pass through the novel, I like to look for both large and small issues with the MS, keeping my focus on pacing, characterization, dialogue, and plot. I utilize in line notes to provide positive feedback on the things that are done well and make the novel shine. I also use inline notes to point out the things that need to be worked on. Once finished, I provide a detailed summary with suggestions on how to improve the material.

Mentee style: I would love to work with someone who has a positive outlook on the process. Someone who is ready to work hard and isn’t afraid of hard critique.

What I’m looking for in a novel? Romance, Urban Fantasy, Thriller, and Mystery.

Favourite novels:
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The Soulwood Series by Faith Hunter
The Grave Witch Series by Kalayna Price
The Alex Verus Series by Benedict Jacka
The Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrews

Mentoring package offered: Full manuscript developmental edit report. Once you’ve completed your edits, I will take a second pass at the MS. I will also be willing to review both your query letter and synopsis.
