Experience: I have been through various rounds of editing (with novels, short stories and scripts) so I can offer some advice and guidance on this process. I can also assist with taking something from an initial idea, to a fully-formed story, along with honing your characters voice and working through any creative blocks. As I have experience teaching and delivering creative writing classes and workshops, I can also help in this area. I can help with planning session, creating resources, delivery and approaching venues. I’m used to pitching for story commissions, so this is something we can also look at, as well as general feedback. Most importantly, I’ll be there for writing support and encouragement when you need it the most.

Mentoring style: I’m very open to tailoring my mentoring style to suit the needs of my mentee. If you only have a short extract of your novel, I will work with you to consider where your story is going and how you might develop it. I will line edit your query letter, synopsis and the first three chapters of your manuscript. I will also ask questions/make suggestions for improvement. Depending on location, I’m happy to meet up in person, along with communicating via email, telephone or Skype.

Mentee style: Ideally, someone who is open to edits and passionate about the story they want to tell. I’m particularly interested in contemporary YA, something gritty or hard-hitting with heart, or anything that’s crossover. I also love a YA novel that can make me laugh!

Favourite novels: Probably the hardest question – Junk, The Lovely Bones, The Hate U Give, All The Bright Places, The Book Thief, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter (ALL of them), Asking For It/Only Ever Yours, Orangeboy, It Only Happens in the Movies, Angus Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging.

Mentoring package offered: Submission package (first 3 chapters, query letter, synopsis)
