Bio: Brandy Woods Snow is an author and journalist born, raised and currently living in beautiful Upstate South Carolina. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Writing from Clemson University. While creative writing has always been her first love, the media has been her home for more than 17 years, during which time she has built a strong platform that includes articles in Delta Sky, Greenville Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly, and Home Design & Décor magazine (Charlotte, Triangle). She has also worked in corporate communications, public relations and business development for international and regional companies. Her first novel Meant To Be Broken, the first book in the Carolina Clay series, will be published by Filles Vertes Publishing in May 2018. She is also a member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) and was a finalist in the 2018 Sun Versus Snow contest.
Experience: With an English/Writing degree, I’m educated in a range of literature, from classics to contemporary, as well as literary theory. My extensive experience in media and magazine writing as well as marketing/public relations/corporate communications has not only fine-tuned my editorial skills but also given me a unique perspective on putting together and polishing the submission package. I am 100% dedicated to the craft of writing, always seeking out sources and opportunities that further my education and expertise, and have been an active member in a large critique group for several years, where I’ve worked with several critique partners of various backgrounds who have gone on to find publication success.

Mentoring style: The first pass will focus on “big picture” elements, and I’ll make in-line notes as I read. This will be stream-of-conscious feedback: what’s working, what’s not, how I’m feeling, what I wondering about, etc. Also, if there’s something I don’t like or something that’s not working, I will always provide an explanation and a possible fix. After that initial read and notes, I’ll put together a letter about my observations and what I think we need to tackle going forward. We will work on big picture items until all is smoothed and then I will conduct a final review to catch glaring grammatical/spelling issues for correction.
Personality-wise, I’m an open book who would be happy to champion my mentee’s book and career not only in this contest but also into the future. While writers often feel solitary, this process requires a village of supporters and partners, and I look forward to cheering you on to success!
Mentee style: I’m looking for a mentee who is eager to learn and improve the craft, who can accept my critiques with an open mind and heart, who is communicative, and who is goal-oriented and not opposed to “rolling up the sleeves” for some hard work. It is incredibly important that my mentee and I establish and adhere to deadlines to maximize both of our efforts to polish the manuscript to perfection.
What I’d like to see in your novel? Swoony romance and emotional contemporaries are my kryptonite! I definitely favor slow burn romance over insta-love, and I’m not opposed to the classic romantic tropes—enemies to lovers, forbidden love, second chance love, friends to lovers and all the rest. I also enjoy stories that delve into the deep emotions—give me all the feels! In non-romantic contemporaries, I’d love to see emotional walks through family/sibling/parent-based drama, coming-of-age pieces, and some novels based on contemporary social issues that are moving and poignant without being didactic and “preachy”. I will also consider thrillers and horrors that really speak to me, but I will NOT be the best fit for sci-fi or high fantasy.
Favourite novels: Katy Upperman’s Kissing Max Holden, Morgan Matson’s Second Chance Summer, Jennifer Castle’s The Beginning of After, Emery Lord’s The Start of Me and You
Mentoring package offered: Full manuscript and redrafts until submission ready. Will also give pass at query letter.
